Welcome to NOT (the BBS) |
| What is this site? Well I decided to throw together a page with
some history as the BBS is Q. Where did NOT (the BBS) name come
from? Originally NOT (the BBS) opened on or around 10/13/1992 so I will start there on my timeline / history. November 13th, 1992 - NOT (the BBS) opens running Spitfire BBS software with Tim Pry as the SYSOP and Trever Brackett, Ronnie Watson and Daniel Herrin as CO-Sysops. I'm kind of fuzzy on what hardware it first ran on but I believe it was not much...probably an old 286 or less. The BBS was setup in the local computer shop that we all worked in Campbell Computers Unlimited that was owned and operated by Steve Campbell. Late 1992 or Early 1993 - A little time after this Steve sold a Leading Edge 386 sx 16 PC (20MB hard drive) relatively cheap to Tim and then Tim also bought a single node version of Mustang Software's Wildcat! BBS software version 3.51. Oh and the modem was a external Hayes 2400 baud modem. Mid 1993 - Tim leaves town to go to another college (we hear horror stories of him eating only soup and Ramen noodles). Steve Campbell is added as a CO-Sysop (he did own the store :-)) and even though Tim is still technically the head SYSOP Trever steps up and takes on more of this role. Somewhere around this time the modem got upgraded to a US Robotics 14400 baud internal modem. November 1994 - Steve Campbell passes away at the age of 44. His wife keeps the computer store going but its days are numbered. At this time Trever takes full ownership of the BBS and moves NOT to his house. NOT gets upgraded to a 486DX 50 and a whopping 1GB IDE hard drive which had cost around $700 and that was a good price. The OS at this time was DOS 6 and Windows 3.11. Around this time Trever upgraded the BBS software from 3.51 to Wildcat! version 4 with 10 node capability. Early 1995 - NOT gets a second telephone line...woohoo two nodes! Also the main number gets a modem upgrade to a 28800 baud modem...blazing fast :-). Also around this time Trever quits working for Campbell Computers Unlimited, since Steve passed away the store is steadily going downhill and there were issues with Steve's (crazy...she was crazy before Steve died) widow. June 17th, 1996 - NOT (the BBS) has it's phone lines taken down and is shutdown...what can I say I was dating and that took up all of my time. September 1st, 1999 - NOT (the BBS) is dusted off and brought back to life as an internet only BBS. Through a business venture that went south the BBS software was upgraded from Wildcat! v4 to Wildcat! Interactive Net Server. This added all kinds of cool features...email server, web frontend, FTP access and most importantly Telnet access. Feburary 24, 2000 - NOT gets a static IP address and gets a domain name....you guessed it notbbs.com. :-)
More to come later.... Trever Want to contact me? Email me: tbrack @ gmail.com (without spaces...did this to hopefully stop the web spiders from getting my email address)
